The Power of Growing Your Business Through Social Influence

Have you been struggling to utilize the insane power of social media to boost your brand awareness?

We all know that in the age of social media, influencers are EVERYWHERE. They can also be anybody. Whether they’re a world-renowned movie star or a YouTuber with only a few hundred subscribers…

anyone has the potential to influence their followers - ANYONE.

Back in the day, we used to call these “celebrity endorsements”- basically hiring a celebrity to promote your product, just like L.L. Cool J. did for FUBU.

Even though a few things have changed, the principles stay the same. If you are looking to partner with influencers to grow your business, take a few minutes to read the 4 things I teach my Shark Tank entrepreneurs about launching a successful influencer campaign below.

When you begin an influencer marketing campaign, the most important thing to remember is: choose the most effective person to reach the right audience, not necessarily the most famous. Their fame isn’t the important part.

You don’t want to link up with someone whose followers would never be interested in buying your product. Partnering with an influencer with 20,000 followers who match your customer persona will beat partnering with someone with 500,000 followers that don't match your customers any day.

Look, if you choose a massive celebrity, a TINY percentage of their followers will buy-in to the message. But if you choose a smaller influencer with a following that matches your DREAM customer, then a greater percentage of their followers will be interested in the solution you are selling.

Celebrity influencers have a lot of followers. But their followers don’t necessarily convert to buyers. At the end of the day, sales (or potential future sales) is the goal. So don’t worry if you can’t afford to pay the big bucks that celebrities charge - you probably don’t need em’.

4 Steps To Launch a Successful Influencer Campaign:

1. Choose an influencer that is in your industry (or an aligned industry).
You want to choose an influencer that has a fan base that aligns with your own. If not, you’re basically throwing your money away. That’s why L.L. Cool J was such a good fit for FUBU. We knew we had a similar fan base and our clothing would appeal to his audience. Him just wearing our clothing brought tons of his fans over to ours as well, and vice versa.

2. Focus on your personal brand, and make sure your influencer fits.
Many brands who first start building their social media presence struggle to find their own voice. If you’re an entrepreneur, try establishing your own personal brand, and then base your company’s brand off of that. Building your own personal presence first is great practice, and can help you figure out who you are and what your brand stands for. From there you can figure out who would represent your brand the best.

3. Make sure your influencer knows how to deliver your message.
This is why choosing an influencer within your industry is so important. The person you choose should have a deep understanding and passion for your industry, which will allow them to accurately promote your brand and boost it to the next level.

4. If you already have an established brand, find influencers that are already fans.
This is the easiest way to make sure your influencer knows everything about your brand and what you stand for. Also if they’re fans you know they’re going to be genuine with their advertisement. People are always looking for genuine people and can tell when someone isn’t.
