Want To Win a $25,000 Grant? 5 tips to craft a winning application

Look, I get it – being an entrepreneur is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. I've seen it all in the world of business, and I know what it takes to stand out and make an impact. I also know that entrepreneurship is a team sport and it's my mission to give access and resources to the next generation.

Since 2020, Black Entrepreneurs Day has awarded more than $750,000 to Black-owned businesses across the country through the NAACP Powershift Grant. And this year, it could be your turn to step up and grab that opportunity!

Apply for a $25,000 grant today.

Every year, we receive thousands of applications. So for those looking to apply, here are my tips for standing out from the crowd!

  1. Know Your "Why": Picture yourself in the Tank preparing to pitch yourself and your business to the Sharks. What drives you? What is your mission? It's important to understand your purpose and consider how your business can make a positive impact on the broader community. Once you have a clear understanding of your "why" it will be easier to articulate that in the application process
  2. Know Your Game Plan: Whether it's investing in new technology, upscaling your marketing efforts, hiring additional staff, or expanding your product line – we want to see that you've thought this through. This isn't just about getting some extra cash; it's about fueling your business growth. Outline how the grant will aid your business operation and how it will contribute to achieving your long-term goals
  3. What Makes You Stand Out?Perhaps it's your innovative product or your community giveback. When you showcase what sets your business apart, it not only reveals your passion and dedication but also helps us understand why your business deserves the grant above all others.  Show us why your business is an exciting investment to partner with, and you'll be sure to stand out!
  4. Prepare Your Video Pitch: Entrepreneurs will have the chance to send a submission video for consideration. This is your moment to shine your business concept in an interesting, impactful way. Too short of a video won’t get your point across, while too long of a video could lose attention. Find your sweet spot and take several practice runs before recording your final submission.
  5. Stay Connected: Make sure to follow the Black Entrepreneurs Day social media channels for up-to-date information on these grants. This is a great way to stay informed about deadlines and other important announcements coming up soon.
