Nearly everyday, someone asks me how to find a mentor. Mentors are able to give key advice from the perspective of someone who’s been in your shoes. I get questions like:

• Do I really need one?
• Where do I find one?
• How do I get a good mentor?

Here's the thing, you could 100% gain success without a mentor, but it typically takes much longer and can be more expensive in the long run. 

The statistics show that businesses with a mentor survive 2x as long as startups with no mentors! That’s because one of the greatest benefits of a mentor is that you get to avoid costly mistakes they’ve already made.

Mentors don't need to be by your side 24/7 to be effective. They can come in many forms. They can come in books. They can be influencers on social media from afar. They can be teachers, your kids, your parents, a colleague or a successful business owner down the street. Heck, they can be a failing business owner. There’s so many lessons to learn everywhere you look.

So when it comes to finding a mentor, don’t overthink it. My first mentors were my mother, a great teacher who believed in me, and a man who ran a corner store in my neighborhood.
