Anything Worth Doing…

Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing…

This is my motto; the words I live by. The status quo will get you nowhere. Everyday I think about the fact that there is someone out there working hard to have what I have earned, someone willing to put in the time and effort that it takes to succeed, and if I’m not working harder than that person, I have no place in business.
If you want to succeed, you must adopt this attitude. You need to work longer, fight harder and sacrifice more than your competitors, and then go even further. No one ever said it would be easy, but when you win it’s all worth it.

What are you going to overdo today?

That is excatly what I have found to be true. When You think you have done all you can do, You go even farther, If it was easy everyone would be doing it. See You at the top Daymond You seem like a Honest guy.

Daymond, yesterday I did some overtime and finished the back of a custom airbrushed denim jacket for you, today I’ll do the front. I would be honored if you would accept this gift from me to you. I know you’re coming to Miami soon and it would be great I could finally meet you and present it to you. All I ask in return is a picture of both of us with you wearing it. The last time I missed out showing you my jackets so this time you can carry one back with you.

    Thanks…Bert

I knew starting a fashion business would be hard but I’m learning that it’s even harder than I predicted. And just when I think I can do it, it get’s even harder. Can’t wait till the day we can laugh about all of the sacrifices we endure in order to do what we love. Keeping the notion that it all will be worth it, is what keeps me going. And seeing others succeed also gives me the motivation to continue because I always say… if he can do, then so can I. What am I going to overdo today?…Today, I’m going to work longer, Tomorrow, I’m going to schedule an extra task to accomplish, & The next day, I’ll do it all over again so that we don’t loose any ground while traveling to Magic.

    I’ll offer another distinction:

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly…

    …at least to start.

If you think about about any level of mastery you have in your life chances are you don’t have it because of one herculean effort that you performed last Tuesday. Chances are that your success is a result of ordinary things consistently done – which lead to extraordinary results.

The correlating phrase here would be:

“Every master was once a disaster.”

Whether it be walking, tying your shoes, or just drinking out of a cup, the first time you tried it I guarantee you were terrible at it. But it was worth the time period in which you did those things poorly in order to achieve the mastery of over those skill sets.

Fast forward out of childhood and into entrepreneurial life and what you’ll find is that successful entrepreneurs have learned to embrace failure. They have dropped the negative connotations associated with short term failure and traded up to view failure as a necessary component of long term success.

In my company we do a lot of product design and development. If a picture is worth a thousand words a prototype is worth a thousand pictures. We have a culture of prototyping in the company and the motto driving that culture is:

    Fail Early
    Fail Often
    Succeed Sooner

In summary, the next time you’re letting what’s perfect get in the way of what’s possible leaving you in a paralyzed state of taking no action, just remember that anything worth doing is worth doing poorly…at least to start.

What am I going to overdo today?? I wake up every morning and look at my product and never look at it as COMPLETE! I ask myself every morning….”What can I do today to make my product that much better?” There’s always room for improvement. I want to always be evolving into something bigger, better and innovative!

Great post. I’ve been working towards my goals for a while now. Each month I evaluate my efforts and plan ways to increase my efforts. I really began to push harder after following @TheSharkDaymond on twitter. 5am=bedtime 8am=review goals/go to the gym. I’m getting there.

Who knew running a business meant you have to keep working hard to keep it running. I’ve been in business for 5 years and I notice that when I slack it slacks. It’s hard to rekindle that all or nothing mentality when I started but I know I did it before and if I want to take the next step I’ll have to do it again.

Hi Daymond. I have been having business ideas for as long as I can remember. I just never did more than writing out the idea. In recent years I ran into someone who talked me into starting a cleaning business with him. That business turned out to be a disaster, but I learned a lot from it. Most importantly I learned that I can actually bring the idea to reality. I also learned a lot of what not to do as well as what is an absolute must that I do. I can’t say that I don’t still have to battle with myself everyday to overcome fear, but I believe reaching out to and surrounding myself with like minded individuals and sites such as this one will help. I also just ask myself, “What have I got to lose?” and “Why not me?”. Thank you for this website. You are encouraging.
